King’s Hawthornes Students Celebrate the Return of the Giants
October 4, 2018

Three students from King’s Leadership Academy Hawthornes are on the way to fulfilling their dream of studying  ‘A’ Levels at one of the country’s top boarding schools.  Jakub Mirynowski, Antony Howard and Lewis Farrell, currently students in Year 11, are all hoping to be the beneficiaries of a Bursary from the Hope Opportunity Trust, an organization whose mission is to provide full support to students throughout their sixth form study at a top boarding school.

The process began back in June with a meeting for parents and pupils explaining the various stages of the process. Since then, the pupils have had to demonstrate their academic ability and potential by passing a number of online tests. They have visited two boarding schools; St Edward’s School in Oxford and St Peter’s in York, where they were able to experience for themselves the boarding school environment and routines. There have been awareness-raising meetings for pupils and families. The final stage of the eligibility process involved an interview with members of the London-based Springboard Foundation. While the students were understandably nervous, their character, potential and ambition shone through, as all three came through the interview with flying colours.

The final stage of the process will see the boys matched up with a boarding school, which is deemed to meet their needs and academic requirements. Both Jakub and Lewis wish to pursue a career in Computer Science, while Antony has an interest in Psychology.  All three are proving to be outstanding ambassadors for their school and a credit to their families and themselves.
