On Friday 22nd November, pupils studying GCSE Drama and GCSE Performing Arts had a real treat – the opportunity to see behind the scenes at The English National Ballet.
The English National Ballet (ENB) were at the Liverpool Empire theatre with their production of ‘The Nutcracker’. Not only were our pupils lucky enough to watch the dancers rehearse but took part in two exciting workshops too. The interactive workshops provided an insight into a range of ‘offstage’ career options in a touring ballet company.
The first workshop, led by English National Ballet’s Technical Director, explored the work of the Technical Department within a touring dance company, with its crucial role within a production centred upon stage management of the set, props and lighting, and the process of moving from one theatre to the next when touring nationally and internationally.
The second workshop, led by English National Ballet’s Digital Media Manager, looked at the vital work of a Marketing Department within a touring ballet company, with its fundamental role being to promote and increase awareness of ENB’s performances and events, looking at brand awareness, advertising campaigns, and social media tools.
The pupils really learned a lot during the afternoon. A big thank you to The Liverpool Empire Theatre and the English National Ballet for this rare glimpse into the workings of a ballet company and theatre.
