Rehearsals have been underway for the latest King’s Leadership Academy Hawthornes Christmas Show which will be performed this year in the school’s brand new, state-of-the-art theatre.
The talented cast will perform their own adaptation of the fairy tale classic, Beauty and The Beast on 9th & 10th December. With the students creating their own beautiful sets and lighting effects the show is set to wow audiences.
The theatre now boasts a brand new stage area and a fantastic lighting system which has been set up by teacher, Kris Conlin. The investment in the theatre has enabled the school to offer greater enrichment through a wonderful range of Arts programmes and this year a BTEC in Performing Arts qualification has been introduced.
The development of the school’s choir has been led by Vicky Hambleton who has been hugely impressed by the students’ enthusiasm and dedication. Vicky commented, ‘The King’s Hawthornes students have a fantastic grasp of choir principles such as how to warm up and maintain vocal health. Their understanding of different musical genres has continued to develop with several passing their ‘Trinity Rock and Pop Vocal’ examinations last term with one student, Chloe Lucas, achieving a distinction.’ This has enabled the choir to embark on a more challenging repertoire including musical theatre.
Moving forward the choir has several performances planned in the run up to Christmas. Check out our events page for more details.
