It was an action-packed summer term for our Hawthornes’ Lionesses, whether it be on the pitch, representing South Sefton in the Merseyside County finals or the numerous successes off the field. In June, six of our football activators planned and delivered an assembly to St Elizabeth’s Primary School about their female role models and to promote the upcoming World Cup. In addition to this, eleven of our Year 8 girls helped to organise and deliver two football tournaments to over ten primary schools, our pupils took part in refereeing and setting up challenges for the primary students. As a result of these successes, the girls spoke live on Radio Merseyside to talk about their achievements and to promote women’s football.

Finally, four of our football activators were amongst one hundred girls selected nationwide to attend a football leadership camp for a weekend residential provided by the FA and Youth Sports Trust. Over the weekend, they developed their coaching, refereeing and leadership skills, as well as meeting some England legends and playing at the home of the England national teams, St George’s Park. An unbelievable few weeks for our Hawthornes’ Lionesses, who are establishing themselves as great leaders and advocates for girls’ football. Brilliant work and leadership by everybody involved.
