King’s Leadership Academy Hawthornes has been working together with the Merseyside Youth Association developing our students into Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP).  The project aims to provide young people with the skills and language to challenge the social norms that underpin gender-based abuse, bullying and other forms of abuse.  Young people learn about the impact that violence can have and how to prevent it.

Peter Gaul, the Principal at King’s Hawthornes said,

‘Our students have benefited hugely from MVP. I think we are already seeing benefits in the Year 7. It has also been a fundamentally transformative project for the deliverers themselves. Our Year 10 leaders have thrived on the challenge. Our role as a school is to transform our community via place-based change. We aim to grow leaders who can make their community better in the long-term.’

The project also supports the Great Schools Trust’s approach to character and leadership education encouraging our students to develop leadership skills.  Through the project students develop the confidence to explore issues that affect them and become empowered to tackle these issues and mentor their peers and younger students.
