Last week our students took part in Duke of Edinburgh and here is an account by Miss Boardman:

Downpours threatened to dampen the mood of the dozen students who took part in DofE last week. We needn’t have worried.

The intrepid twelve – with burgens on their backs and determination in their boots – hiked the 10k across Delamere and through Frodsham.

Upon reaching camp they pitched their tents, collected firewood and toasted marshmallows. The mood in camp was convivial. Staff basked in the warm glow of the fire and the cooperation between our 12 from King’s Hawthornes and their peers from down the river at King’s Liverpool.

As the sunlight trickled into camp the next morning, our pupils were already packed up and reading the maps ready to tackle the day ahead. Slightly tired but no less determined, they set off with the village of Moulton as their journey’s end. If you ask the boys, they got ‘lost on purpose’ but none the less, all 12 of our pupils showed grit and resilience whilst on their adventure. The coach ride back to school was silent…(apart from the occasional snore).

Providing genuine opportunities for our students to develop character and leadership is fundamental to what we do. I look forward to the next expedition and another opportunity to witness our pupils enjoy the challenge set before them.
