This summer King’s Hawthornes took part in the community partnership event ‘Challenge Merseyside’. A new initiative, held at Aintree Racecourse, which aims to inspire school children from the Merseyside area through exciting challenges and motivational activities. The event was run in partnership by a number of organizations including Be Military Fit, The Jockey Club, Liverpool Football Club, Merseyside Police, The Royal Marines and Sale Sharks.
Children learned to demonstrate the core values of courage, determination, unselfishness and cheerfulness whilst experiencing a range of exciting activities with children from other schools from the local area. Participants were able to take part in circuit training, learn team building and self-defence skills and also hear a motivational talk from former jockey, Katie Walsh.
It is hoped ‘Challenge Merseyside’ is the start of future initiatives to engage the young people in the area.
