Principal's Welcome

As Principal of King’s Leadership Academy Hawthornes, it is my privilege to welcome you to our school’s website.  Our vision is:

“To develop in each of our student the academic skills, intellectual habits, qualities of character and leadership traits necessary to succeed at all levels and become successful citizens in tomorrow’s world.”

Our motto is ‘Credimus.’ the Latin for ‘We believe.’ We strongly believe that King’s Hawthornes is a place where aspirations become reality. We strive to achieve this on a daily basis, living out the values of our Aspire Code:

  • Achievement & Aspiration
  • Self-Awareness
  • Professionalism
  • Integrity
  • Respect
  • Endeavour

We are a values-driven school. We believe in them and how they develop the character of our young people. We teach them explicitly and we aim to model these behaviours in all that we do as a school community. These values permeate everything we do in order to allow your child to achieve their potential and make a positive contribution to the world once they leave us. We want our students, parents and supporters to share in this belief with us.

In terms of our curriculum, we believe that a traditional curriculum which emphasises the core skills of literacy and numeracy is crucial. Our students also have access to a wide variety of extra-curricular enrichment activities. Life beyond the classroom is crucial: in Years 7 and 8, each year group takes part in a residential outward bound experience with our partner provider, The Brathay Trust in the Lake District. This then prepares students to go on to enrol onto the Duke of Edinburgh scheme form Year 9. In Year 11, an extended school day allows every student to achieve to their maximum at GCSE.

We believe that developing character in young people is crucial. We teach it via the Aspire Code and we also teach Leadership as a discrete subject. Via this approach, we aim to develop confident, resilient and happy young adults, who have the skills to cope and flourish in the Twenty First Century. In order to achieve this, we provide an extensive programme of visits to the country’s best Universities, a rich careers programme and formal Work Experience for all students in Year 10.

Central to all of the above is the quality of teaching we provide at King’s Hawthornes. As Headteacher, I am proud to lead  a team of staff who are hugely committed  to ensuring that the education provided here is second to none.  I hope that you find the information on this website informative when choosing a school to prepare your child for the future.
