The vital work we do to fill the cultural capital ‘bag’ of our students is far-reaching and not always instantly tangible.  It may be an anecdote they tell to a loved one years from now.  It may be positive memories of school which changes their disposition towards education.  These stories and feelings can affect whole families and communities and not just the individual.

For many of our students last week was a whirlwind of ‘firsts’. The first foray into the Lake District for many brought smiles to faces and lactic acid to weary legs.  It is a wonderfully worthwhile thing to do.  The preparation before such visits requires great teamwork; thank you to the many members of staff who had reassured, cajoled and in some instances translated in order to ensure the Brathay visit was truly inclusive.  

More firsts were had on Sunday afternoon.  23,500 people watched on as Liverpool Women played a historic first game at Anfield against Everton Women.  28 of those in attendance were our students.  They sang songs, waved their scarves and posed with the players after the game.  Mr Tosh even smiled whilst they belted out You’ll Never Walk Alone.
